Telefood is an annual fundraising campaign dedicated to reducing the number of hungry people in the world. It harness the power of people including renowned actors, singers, athletics to get its message out to the public. Money raised goes to hundreds of small projects in developing countries.
TeleFood projects around the world have been making the difference in the lives of small-scale farming communities and given hope to numerous children and women who did not have the needed livelihood supplies. They have been designed to provide families and communities the tools necessary to increase the quantity and variety of their food production.
Projects categories range from crop production to fish and animal production, including support to school garden initiatives and apiculture. The budget of each project does not exceed US$ 10 000 and a duration of 12 months. The projects are designed to last, so they won't wither away when the initial supplies run out or the first blight or drought hits.
Crop production projects provide essential vitamins and minerals that are often lacking in diets. They also generate income, since excess crops can be sold in local markets. Animal and fish production projects provide valuable sources of protein and furnish nourishment between crop harvests.
Since the launching of the TeleFood Campaign in 1996 over 2900 projects in 130 countries have been implemented.
